We are very pleased to announce that we have the two authors of a great book as guests for Episode 12 of Silver Lining for Learning. The book Writers in the Secret Garden: Fanfiction, Youth, and New Forms of Mentoring provides an in-depth examination of the novel ways young people support and learn from each other through participation in online fanfiction communities. The two authors, Cecilia Aragon and Katie Davies, both from the University of Washington, studied fanfiction writers and consider how distributed mentoring could improve not only other online learning platforms but also formal writing instruction in schools.
Cecilia Aragon is Professor in the Department of Human-Centered Design and Engineering at the University of Washington, where she is also a Senior Data Science Fellow at the eScience Institute.
Katie Davis is Associate Professor in the University of Washington Information School, Cofounder of the Digital Youth Lab, and coauthor of The App Generation.
