One of the admissions filters has been passing Algebra. Typically, 9th graders take Algebra or General Mathematics. A superintendent decided to remove this filter by requiring all students to take Algebra whether they were “ready” or not. I believe your reflections in #155 did not (yet) address the work arounds well-intentioned people create to beat the system even as the system is rapidly evolving. It is clear to me that a well-developed portfolio ought to be the filter that opens opportunities. Our capacity to define a well-developed portfolio, much less analyze this tool has a long ways to go. I was pleased to hear Chris describe how he is having his students create this tool . Thanks for the show.
